Welcome to the ETHIC website
It’s the place to come to find out what is happening with the Town Hall restoration. It’s also the place to find out what fundraising events are forthcoming and it’s where, in the future, you will find how to use the Town Hall yourself, for meetings, parties or even wedding celebrations.
BackgroundETHIC (Eye Town Hall Improvements Company) is a registered company founded in 2005 for the following reasons:
- To raise money for and to raise awareness of the restoration of the Eye Town Hall.
- To improve Eye Town Hall so that it is fit for wider use as a vibrant civic and community centre.
- To create a historical centre to celebrate and inform the wider public about Eye Town Hall, the town of Eye itself and the neighbouring parishes.
ETHIC is a registered charity, which greatly enhances its ability to attract funds from those granting bodies which will not make donations to rate-raising councils, such as Eye Town Council. For this reason, it has been agreed in principle that the title and ownership of the Eye Town Hall should pass from the Town Council to ETHIC for an agreed period. By way of assurance to the people of Eye, ETHIC is bound to act only in the interests of the hall and the people of Eye. It is not allowed to sell the hall. To encourage good liaison, the majority of ETHIC’s management committee also sits as elected members of the Town Council.
ETHIC would not be such a valued organisation were it not for the tireless efforts of Richard Dinnin, founding Director and Chairman. He is justly honoured as Honorary President. We are also proud to have The Hon. John Gummer M.P. as Patron of our fundraising effort and we are grateful for his continued support particularly because conservation and Victorian buildings are of such interest to him.
The present Chairman, Peter Gould, was appointed in October 2009. He comes to ETHIC on a wave of enthusiasm given his previous experience in grant applications and local government. He is also Chair of the 78 Derngate Trust in Northampton which is a heritage building project with many parallels to ETHIC.
Peter Gould is supported in his hard work by: Charles Butler, Daphne Surman, Geoffrey Randall and from Eye Town Council, Penny Mcsheehy, Andrew Evitt, Simon Hooton, Linda Cummins and Nick Ross.
