Health Services
Hartismere Hospital League of Friends The building of the Hartismere Hospital was started in 1913, as the infirmary with 140 inmates’ accommodation, and was used as a military hospital during World War 1, with the NHS taking it over in 1948 in charge of geriatrics, maternity and the Health Centre.
The Hartismere Hospital League of Friends was originally started in the 1960s to provide extra amenities for patients at the hospital when it was a fully operational bedded unit. With the closure of the hospital beds and then the whole hospital building, the Friends were fully committed to its rehabilitation and the recent re-establishment has been some important success. The Friends support patients and staff and continue to encourage more care for local residents. Please click here to learn more about us and how you can become a Friend. ------000000000------
