Following a recent consultation with customers, Eye Library will be changing its opening hours in April.
The new hours will mean the library is open for the same number of hours as it is now, but will open and close a bit earlier most days to meet local demand. The new opening hours will come into effect on Saturday 1 April and the changes are as follows:
Monday – closed (no change)
Tuesday – 9am to 1pm (opening 30 mins earlier)
Wednesday – 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm (open 30 mins earlier and closing 30 mins later)
Thursday – 2pm to 5pm (closing 30 mins earlier)
Friday – 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm (opening 30 mins earlier and closing two hours earlier)
Saturday – 9am – 1pm (opening 30 mins earlier)
Sunday – 10am to 3pm (no change)
Customers and local people were asked about the changes with 100 people responding and Suffolk Libraries Board, Suffolk County Council and Eye Library Friends have all approved the change.
Julie Shepherd, Eye Library Manager, said: “We have not reviewed the library opening hours for several years and we hope that opening earlier will make it easier for local people to use the library. Many items are returned via the library dropbox before the current opening times, so we hope moving the hours from our Friday evening session, when the library is a bit quieter, to earlier morning opening will result in a more accessible and popular service for our users.”

Opportunities are waiting for YOU
During the year a number of community and fundraising events are held in the town and enthusiastic individuals with a little time to spare and fresh ideas are needed to lead and work within small teams to continue running these and other events.
Possible events coming up this year are:
Women on Wheels – encouraging women and girls to try cycling in a fun and supportive way
Heritage Weekend in Eye, 8th -10th September 2017 – did you know that Eye has almost as many listed buildings as Lavenham?
Christmas Event in Eye, 2nd December 2017 – how would you organise this evening?
Ideally each event would have a lead person or small team and additional volunteers would make up the ‘event team’. If you can offer your time, energy, knowledge and experience, and you’re keen to meet new people then contact me for more information.
Maria Ford firstname.lastname@example.org (01379 870466)
Additionally the British Legion Poppy Appeal and 490th BG Memorial Volunteer Group would benefit from additional volunteers who will support the the organisers in raising funds and awareness. If you can spare a few of hours during the year to assist with either of these groups, the existing small team of volunteers will be very grateful. No experience necessary, all ages welcome.

In Eye we raised almost £3000 for the Poppy Appeal in 2016.
This is a staggering amount for a small town to raise and we’d like to thank the participating shops and businesses, door-to-door collectors and those who stood outside the Handyman braving the wind and rain, for all your efforts.
Thanks also to those who volunteered to count and bag up the money that was collected.
From Jackie, Fred, Tracy, Harvey and Maria.
Eye Town Council – Change in Personnel

We’d like to thank Sarah for all her efforts and wish her all the best in her future endeavours. It is hoped that a new Clerk will be appointed in March and will be available to take up his/her duties at the end of that month.
Until a new appointment can be made the Council is working with an interim clerk on reduced hours, and who is available on Tuesday’s and Friday’s each week on the usual number – 07713 196251.
