Eye Town Council Housing Advisory Group
Orwell Housing Association are now marketing a new affordable shared ownership home in Laxfield that is due for completion October 2023.
The property is ideal for those wishing to take that first step on the property ladder or move out of rented within their local area where there is limited or no affordable homes suitable to their needs.
Priority for this affordable home will be given first to those that have a connection to Laxfield and the District of Mid Suffolk.
To ensure that local people are aware of this opportunity, I wonder if you could help by placing the attached advert in the parish magazine/notice board/website.
If you could assist in getting the word out I would be very grateful and any other ideas to help do this would be very much appreciated.
Kind regards

Eye Water Community Update June 22 2023
the Lead Pipe Renewal scheme currently being undertaken in Eye.
Back in the idle of March 2023, all residents of the streets in the centre of Eye were sent a letter confirming that we were about to commence with the Lead Pipe Renewal scheme and provided information on what to expect next and the plan for progressing through the scheme. I have attached that letter in case you may not have previously seen it. The letter also explained that we will have to progress through the town one street at a time so will take us about 6 months to work our way through all the streets from the first to the last. As you can see, the letter also requested to now just wait until a further letter is received before making contact so that we can progress in conjunction with the planned order of streets and keep some control over customer call contact.
The streets have been planned in an order very much in line with Suffolk county Council Highways Department traffic management requirements as some of the more narrower streets will require road closures. We have also purposely planned to carry out Church Street during the school summer holidays in order to avoid disrupting the school and the residents who have to drop off and pick up children there.
We have already now completed the first 2-3 streets and are about to start in Buckshorn Lane. Next then will be Wellington Road whose residents should be receiving in the next week the letter/leaflet inviting them to register their interest in the scheme. Then we will move onto Church street as we approach the middle to end of July.
Hope the above helps explain the current position of the scheme and how we are continuing through it.

IT Security – What should you be doing? |
It can be very confusing about what any IT lead should do about IT Security in their own organisation. It’s a landscape that sometimes gets hijacked by well-meaning consultants and companies who tell you the latest shiny bit of kit you “definitely” need. At IT Services at CAS we’ve written a piece on the core elements of IT Security that we think you “definitely” need and some “nice to have’s”. Why not check it out ! If you have any queries or would like to discuss any IT matters please don’t hesitate to contact me at 01473 345321 or email me at matthew.morling@communityactionsuffolk.org.uk |

FREE LEAD WATER PIPE REPLACEMENT FOR EYE
Do not miss out on this once in a lifetime chance to have your old lead water pipes renewed from the mains to the stop cock absolutely FREE OF CHARGE improving the quality of the water and the value of your property by accepting this offer. Over 300 properties in Eye have been identified as at risk of having old lead pipe supplying the property with water. The pipe could be well over 100 years old as well as polluting the water supply with a high level of lead that is not good for your health.Pipes are at risk of bursting at anytime causing serious disruption and costing you the householder hundreds of pounds to replace the burst pipe.
At a public meeting held in the Eye Town Hall on Tuesday March 28 th Essex and Suffolk Water and their contractor T4 took the time to explain to the residents how the program would be implemented in Eye. Each of the over 300 homes will receive a booklet in the post, this must be read as the content will cover in-depth the whole issue as well as the process of applying for the free replacement water pipe. This booklet will start arriving at households from mid April. There will be a mobile telephone number you must call to make your registration. Do not worry if you do not receive your copy of the booklet at the same time as your friends, this will be a drip feed process street by street. There will also be printed copies of the booklet available in the Eye Town Council office on Tacon Close and at the Eye Library on Cross Street, there will also be someone who will be able to assist you in this matter and of course it will be online at eyesuffolk, org for you.
Once you have applied for your free water pipe replacement there will be a short survey of your property to identify the stop cock location, point of entry of the existing feed and the best point for the new service to connect. Then all you have to do is sit back and wait for the team from Essex and Suffolk Water and T4 to carry out their work. All the construction work will be completed ahead of your connection to the new pipe work and in most cases your household will only be without water for about 30 minutes while disconnecting the old lead pipe and reconnecting to the new blue water pipe and safe fresh water.
The whole construction program will commence in May and dependent on the take up will be completed in November working on a Street by Street approach offering the least disruption to the town. If you have any concerns there will be a further meeting you will be able to attend and throughout the duration of work there will be a point of contact location in the town centre to visit and of course you are welcome to attend council meetings to ask questions or talk to any of the Eye Town Councillors and Town Clerk on this matter.
Please take the time to find out what’s going on in your town.It is thanks to a number of persistent residents that the water authority has agreed to replace old pipes, you have a voice please use it.

As you may know Morrisons have confirmed this week that they are planning to close 132 unprofitable McColls stores, 55 of which include Post Offices. I’m sorry to inform you that this includes Eye Post Office.
We appreciate that our customers will be concerned about this closure and the impact that it will have. Morrisons have confirmed that the branch will remain open until January 2023. In that time, we will be undertaking a review of the local area, the neighbouring Post Office services and other nearby retailers to assess the requirements for the Eye community.

Police
- When wishing to report something, the easiest way is to do so using the on-line reporting tool from the Suffolk Constabulary website here Suffolk Police – Report Something. If you wish to report an historic crime (after the event), use this link Suffolk Police – Report Crime. To report a crime being committed, always dial 999.
These on-line reporting tools produce the same result as the reporting person dialling the non-emergency Tel. No. 101, but without the wait associated with the telephone method. The person will receive an Investigation No. via e-mail, often within an hour of sending the report. For those with no internet access, it may save time to ask a friend or family member who does, to report on their behalf, as queues on the 101 system can be excessive due to demand.
- If you wish to contact an Officer or PCSO in the Halesworth Locality Safer Neighbourhood Team, the e-mail address isHalesworth.snt@suffolk.police.uk Please do not use this to report crime, which should be reported only using the methods mentioned above. This is important because reports of crime and the other issues listed on the “Report Something” webpage need to be correctly triaged and dispatched. By not following the correct procedure, this process is by-passed and reports may sit in an e-mail queue un-dispatched.
An example of when to use the SNT e-mail address might be when you would like to speak with somebody for advice.
- My e-mail address as your Community Engagement Officer is CEOhalesworth@suffolk.police.uk I can be contacted for advice too, and also if you’d like me to address a community group to speak about policing or policing issues or any other engagement activity. I am also your first point of contact for Community Speed Watch and for requests to attend schools to address pupils and discuss policing.
Part of my role also covers posting to our social media pages, Halesworth Police Facebook, Halesworth Police Twitter and Suffolk Police Instagram, so the messaging facilities provided by these platforms can be used to contact myself too. If you’d like me to hold a Street Meet engagement in your community using our mobile police station. Let me know.
- If you’d like to contact Inspector King direct, his e-mail address is gary.king@suffolk.police.uk
- Suffolk Police also has a new e-mail address for the public to provide intelligence information intelligencereporting@suffolk.police.uk An example of the use of this might be if you’d like to let us know about suspected drug dealing or other possible or suspected criminality. Notice I’ve used the term “suspected”. If you’re sure a crime has occurred, contact us on-line or via 999.
- Suffolk Police offers a free e-mailing facility called ‘Police Connect’ which provides up to date information we would like you to know about the area you live. We us PC to provide information about crime in the area of Suffolk you tell us you want to know about. As Town & parish Clerks in particular, it helps keep you up to date with policing in your community. Please subscribe here & encourage others to do the same Police Connect
