Eye Town Youth Community Council
On November 25th 2022 the Mayor of Eye Councilor Johnnie Walker made history for the Town of Eye Suffolk. The Mayor presided over the first meeting of the Eye Youth Community Council. He noted that this was a dream come true, after 900 years the Town now has a direct link to the Youth and children in Eye and the surrounding area.
This has all come about through hard work, lots of meetings and the cooperation of the towns Hartismere School and Sixth Form Collage, Guides, Brownies, Scouts and Cub groups based in the town. Concluding in the forming of the first ever Eye Youth Community Council who’s next meeting will be in January 2023.
The Eye Youth Community Council
This Council will be run according to official Council protocol. The Council will convene each month except in August and an Agenda will be pre set and followed. Residents will be encouraged to attend the meetings regardless of age. The Council can pass items on the agenda as it does the main Council and if passed some projects will take place immediately others will take longer for example planning permision or raising funds.
The Youth Community Council have some very topical points for their next Agenda in January 2023 including tree planting in the town and a Survey of the Eye Cemetery of the graves of local inhabitants dating back over 100 years.
If you are a youth or child in the Eye area you will also be able to have your say by attending the meeting when the public will be given a 3 minute proposal time. This will give you time to raise any issues that effect you or the town and raise issues with the minutes of the past meeting, whether you are at school, collage,University or working, you will still be able to ask questions. You can raise points for the council which can be added to the Agenda for the next meeting this can be via email to the Eye Town Youth Community Council youth@eyesuffolk.org Remember that for inclusion on an Agenda the request must be considered by the Eye Town Youth Community Council and will need to be received in advance of the next meeting.
The Eye Town Youth Community Council meetings will be published on this website and a printed copy placed on the Eye Town Hall notice board a minimum of three working days ahead of the meeting.
It is hoped that this project will highlight what the young who are the future of Eye would like to see happen in the town. They join the Eye Town Council at a high point as they work to secure a new play and youth exercise equipment for the much needed replacement of the Oak Crescent, Pocket Park play equipment that is now closed for use. There are also plans afloat for a complete refurbishment of the Eye Town Community Centre. The Eye Town Youth Community Council will be on hand to place their input to ensure a positive end meeting future needs of the young of Eye thus improving the wellbeing of the whole community, reducing anti social behaviour giving the young a pathway to success.
The Eye Town Youth Community Council is looking forward to working for and on behalf of Eye Town.
