Did you know that some years ago the PCT proposed to close the hospital because it was not ‘fit for purpose’ and at the time the directive was for ‘care in the community’, not hospital based?
At the instigation of the then Chairman, Eric Havers, the League of Friends fought to keep the hospital open and to retain beds in Eye.
After years of protests, meetings, marches and endless negotiations we are pleased that the PCT has spent more than £1.5 million to refurbish the existing building.
At the present time the PCT and League of Friends are open to suggestions from the public as to the type of clinics to be added to and improve the new hospital setup.
Another success of the League of Friends was to ensure that the NHS commissioned 10 rehabilitation beds at Paddock House and it is expected that these 10 beds will eventually be provided in the new care home which will be phase 2 of the project.
