T S Eliot published his masterpiece “Four Quartets” in 1944. It is his greatest poem, and was at once recognized as such by every literary critic, amid universal acclaim.
In all of Literature, “Four Quartets” stands alone- unique, timeless, enigmatic.
Rooted firmly in Eliot’s English experience (Eliot was American) “Four Quartets” is structured in a soi-disant musical format.
Each “Quartet” contains five sections, and the allusions to the Four Seasons of Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring are overtly demonstrated. More subtly, the four elements of Earth, Water, Fire, and Air conjoin mysteriously.
The result is the definitive 20th Century Poetic statement on the Anglican Christological themes of Time, Morality, Mortality, and Redemption.
The poem is presented as a “Visual Recital”, with all of the text spoken and illustrated pictorially using Animated Gifs.
The five numeric sections of each Quartet will be displayed, but not spoken.
There will be a one minute break between each “Quartet”.
The overall recital time of the performance will be approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.
Refreshments will be served only prior to the recital.
