The Dove Players came together to enable local amateurs from Eye and surrounding area take part in drama productions. Part of their aim was to bring back a pantomime to Eye and so in January 2008 they put on their first production “The Three Musketeers’ under the guidance of chairman Charlotte Sizer. The following year came ‘George and his multi-coloured quest’ written and directed by Lee Huckle. For 2010 the Players are starting rehearsals for ‘Puss in Boots’ with performances on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th January at the Community Centre.
The Players are keen to help young people take part and the pantos have had a mix ages from 12 to 60 plus. With simple sets and props the emphasis is on fun and energy meaning everybody can have a go.
Romeo & JulietThe Players have also produced two summer youth outdoor productions at the castle – A midsummers night Dream and, last summer, Romeo and Juliet.
Last spring also saw the Players’ first Murder Mystery evening with the interrogation of the suspects interspersed between a 3 course meal. Food and entertainment went down really well and the Players are keen to see if they can hold another evening as a fund-raiser for a group or society.
If anybody would like to get involved either as a performer, or perhaps in a back stage capacity such as making costumes, then please get in touch with the Secretary, Mary Mills, on 01379 870455
