Water Quality Progress in Eye Suffolk
Eye Water Quality resulting in the Eye Town lead pipe replacement scheme
Progress update:
Our thanks to the residents who have taken action to bring the water quality issues to the council to enable this action to happen for the whole community of Eye Suffolk
I’m writing to update you on our progress with the Eye Town lead pipe replacement scheme. I am pleased to confirm that the project will be commencing in March/April.
The scope of work would include replacement of the full length of lead pipework from the water main to a tap within customers’ homes. lead pipework owned by customers would – with the customer’s agreement – be replaced free of charge.
Our customers in Eye Town given the opportunity to have their lead pipe replaced by our contractor for free whilst we are replacing any of our lead pipe work. Surveys will commence end of March/beginning of April with first excavations starting in May.
Our Project Manager, Daren Still, along with our Partner Contractor T4 will begin engaging with the County Council and in particular, with their highways department regarding streetworks and traffic management, permits, etc. At this point, timescales may flex as securing approval for streetworks can sometimes involve durations up to 12 weeks. We will aim to develop the programme starting with some of the more straightforward streets that avoid road closures or complexities. However, we will still need time to implement a communications campaign with customers and secure their individual consent to proceed with their property pipe replacement.
We would also like to hold some further meetings and discussions with the town council about our plans and proposals once they are further formed.
Updates will follow as this progress. Post made February 2023
