BABERGH AND MID SUFFOLK DISTRICT COUNCILS
RESIDENTS INVITED TO QUIZ COUNCILS ON DRAFT JOINT LOCAL PLAN
Babergh and Mid Suffolk have confirmed a series of public drop-in events as part of the public consultation on the councils’ draft Joint Local Plan.
The events, which will be run across the districts during August and September, will allow residents with questions about the draft Joint Local Plan to put those questions to members and officers from the two councils. Residents from both Babergh and Mid Suffolk, as well as any other individuals with an interest in the districts, are invited to drop-in to any of the events.
The first public event will be held in Stowmarket on Tuesday 6 August, with the full schedule of events detailed below.
The events are part of the ongoing public consultation on Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils’ draft Joint Local Plan. Residents are invited to submit their comments online via the councils’ Consultation Page, where the list of drop-in events is also published, via:
https://www.babergh.gov.uk/jointlocal or https://www.midsuffolk.gov.uk/jointlocal
Those with detailed questions who are unable to make these events can contact the Strategic Planning Policy team directly on localplan@baberghmidsuffolk.gov.uk or on the councils’ 0300 123 4000 number, selecting option 5 and then option 4 from the menus.
Cllr David Burn, Mid Suffolk District Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning, said: “Our draft Joint Local Plan is available online, but we know just how daunting it can look for someone without a planning background. For any residents who want to ask about specific aspects, or just have a face to face conversation about what the plan involves, these events are an opportunity to get an answer to their questions.”
Cllr Clive Arthey, Babergh District Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning, said: “The new Joint Local Plan will shape Babergh over the next twenty years and we want people to understand how it affects them and how to let us know what they think of it. We want people to take part in the consultation process and we want to provide as much support as possible to help people do that. The drop-in events will explain the context of the plan and our officers will be able to provide information and assistance. It should help people who want to submit responses, which in turn will help us put together a plan that works for our entire district.”
The draft Joint Local Plan considers how to shape development in the two districts between 2018 and 2036, with focuses on the environmental, social and economic impact of development. The draft proposes detailed policies, addressing issues as varied as enhancing town centre occupation, planning for a growing and ageing population and protecting and enhancing environmental assets. It aims to provide for sustainable growth, giving a growing population homes and workplaces alongside protecting and enhancing the unique characters and environmental assets of the two districts.
The consultation closes at 4pm on Friday 30 September.
Please note the chair of the Environment Committee has called an Extra Ordinary meeting for this evening the 1st August at 6:00 pm in the Council Chamber at Eye Town Hall.
Mid Suffolk District Council has funded two Police Community Support Officers, PCSO 3036 Bill Butcher and PCSO 3352 Lizzy Porteous. Both work out of Stowmarket Police Station and are attached to the Safer Neighbourhood Team, and they cover around 75 parishes of Mid Suffolk to include Eye. Their time is split between Town and Rural which means you can expect to see them in the Eye area at least once a week. The days on which the PSCOs visit will vary and when in Eye their time will be spent on patrol providing a reassuring uniformed presence in the community. Areas that the PCSOs will be focusing on while on duty include:
- On-street parking; issuing of advisory notices, fixed penalty notices and looking into parking complaints
- Speeding
- Anti-social behaviour
- Reassurance and engagement
If you do see Bill or Lizzy out and about on patrol, please do stop and have a chat. Alternatively, if you have any concerns regarding issues in your community, please refer these to your Town Clerk at townclerk@eyesuffolk.org who can raise a referral with MSDC so that the PCSO can then be tasked to look into this for you.
