New SNT bases open

December 5, 2012
05 Dec 2012

5 December 2012

Suffolk Police reinforces its commitment to providing
police services straight to the heart of the communities it serves,
by opening four new offices in Debenham, Elmswell, Eye and Ixworth
this month.

The police stations are being re-located as part of a joint
estates project which will see single buildings used for more than
one purpose.

Tim Passmore, Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner said, “We
face many financial challenges ahead, and our public service
partners are in the same difficult position, so it makes perfect
sense for us to look to see where we work together to make
savings.

“By working together and looking at new ways of providing our
services we can continue to provide excellent services to the
people of Suffolk in the heart of the communities in which they
live.”

The project involves the county council, the fire service and
the health authority working more closely together across the
county. The Constabulary will benefit from the sale of the
buildings and lower running costs.

The new police offices will be bases for the Safer Neighbourhood
Teams and the opening hours of all the stations remain
unchanged.

The Debenham office will be operational from December 4 and is
located at Debenham Fire Station, next door to the existing police
station; the Elmswell office will be operational from December 6th
and is based at Elmswell Fire Station, close to the existing police
station and the Ixworth station, due to open on December 17, is at
Ixworth Fire Station, next door to the existing police station.

Eye Police Station will move to an office at The Lodge,
Hartismere Hospital on 10 December and is a joint project with the
PCT.

11-year-old girl accosted

December 8, 2011
08 Dec 2011

8 December 2011

Police are appealing for witnesses or information after an
11-year-old girl was accosted in Eye at the beginning of the
month.

She was walking along Castle Street in the town on the afternoon
of Thursday 1 December when she noticed the male driver of a blue
Ford Transit van staring at her. As she continued her journey, she
saw the same van on Church Street. She entered a shop there and the
van drove past.

Once she left the shop she walked along Buckshorn Lane, this was
at around 4.30pm. The driver was walking along the opposite side of
the road towards her – he crossed over and deliberately bumped into
her before walking away. She was unhurt but shaken and ran off to a
place of safety.

The man is described as an ‘older man’ of oriental appearance
and was smoking a cigarette in the van.

If you have any information about this incident or recognise the
description of the offender please call PC Jacqueline Thomas at Mid
Suffolk North Safer Neighbourhood Team on 101 or
Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
