Eye Town Youth Council
The Big Eye Town Clean Up actioned by the Eye Town Youth Council and supported by the Hartismere School took place on Suffolk Day Wednesday June 21 the longest day of the year. This organised event saw seventeen members of the Eye Youth Council and pupils of the Hartismere School head out of school to the Eye Town Council office in Tacon Close to collect Hi vis jackets and litter pickers and of course a photo opportunity before starting the job in hand.
The brief was to clear weeds, collect litter, tidy the Streets in the town and then head to the lanes of public footpaths and remove all discarded items leaving the footpaths clear of litter. This resulted in some very unsightly finds, advertising sign boards, a sink and of course there was a supermarket trolley these were only a few of the finds that were retrieved from the undergrowth.
A great big thank you to the wonderful council crew who arrived on the scene with their refuge truck and relieved the clean up group of their collection of waste, making this a true Eye community effort.
A trial that only allows lorries into a town centre that serve its shops and other businesses has begun.
Suffolk County Council said a number of buildings had been struck and pavements mounted in Eye in recent times, as lorries tried to negotiate narrow streets.
The experimental traffic regulation order will be in place for six months.
Town councillor and campaigner, Tunie Brandon, said lorry traffic had become “dangerous”.

The Annual Town Meeting is not a council meeting. It is a meeting of the town electors and often involves the town council’s partners such as the Police and the District Council and the County County Council. Local organisations are invited to provide a report on their activities and all electors are entitled to attend and ask questions or raise issues.
Meeting Starts at 6.30 pm in main hall of Eye Town Hall.
All Welcome Free to attend
