Stop HGV’s Ruining Eye
A Petition from the people of Eye to Suffolk County Council
with the support of Eye Town Council.
The number of Heavy Goods Vehicles passing through our narrow streets
must be reduced before there is a serious accident involving pedestrians or more damage to listed buildings, pavements, parked vehicles, and other property. Heavy traffic continues to increase and disrupt our lives throughout the night, and most of this traffic does not need to go through Eye.
Please join our campaign by signing the petition if you believe something needs to be done before it is too late and a major accident happens.
The petition is available in our shops or on line at http://chng.it/MYwfxRWqK4. Please only sign the petition once as duplicates will be removed an may invalidate the petition.
Thank you
Eye Town Council made the decision to procure the services of the MLM Group to gather evidence to present to Suffolk County Council for an Eye Town Centre Traffic Review. The report analyses traffic conditions and volumes, with particular regard to HGV traffic movements in the centre of town. Its primary purpose is to support the town council’s objective to lobby for an extension of a weight limit to additional roads which pass through the centre of town.
The main data was gathered using five automatic traffic counters sited at strategic points in the town’s road network. This was supplement by photographic evidence collected by the TOOOT group (Trucks out of our Town), resident’s and local business testimonials. To see the report in full please visit our website be clicking here.
The whole community now needs to support our County Councillor in lobbying for this weight limit extension and to apply pressure through the democratic process to highlight the safety issues that the report clearly demonstrates. We all want to make our town centre a safer place for residents, pedestrians, and other road users. This independent report is an important first step.
Due to COVID19 measures a local farmer near Woodbridge is in dire need of local pickers to protect this harvest.
Start around 10th April and to conclude around June 20th. The crop is very temperature dependent and keeps going whilst the temperature is over 10 degrees.
There are 2 sites needing harvesting teams, one East of Ipswich, one Woodbridge and Saxmundham.
Pickers need their own transport to get to the fields. The day starts at 6am and is a 12hr picking day, with an hour total break, 7 days a week. Pickers need to provide their own food for lunch water to keep hydrated.
Pay is over the National Living wage (incl. bonus) with a bonus for those who stay for the whole of the season. There are days off and rest days.
