This will mark the accession of His Majesty King Charles III

September 9, 2022
09 Sep 2022

Dear Town Clerks and Civic Officers

Words fail me!

I cannot possibly begin to thank you for the unprecedented effort you made to the success of Sunday’s momentous events, right across this county of ours.

I know that for you, like me, it exceeded all expectations. I was so proud.

Your attention to the smallest details, your careful and meticulous planning was quite extraordinary.

What a tribute from Suffolk to our beloved Queen and to our new King.

I am literally overwhelmed with gratitude

My warmest best wishes

Clare Euston

H.M. Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk

Proclamation ceremony for the new monarch in Eye on Sunday 11 September at 3.30pm at the Eye Town Hall steps

“The Proclamation” is the official announcement of the new monarch. A new Sovereign succeeds to the throne as soon as his or her predecessor dies and is proclaimed as soon as possible at an Accession Council in St James’ Palace.

It has been confirmed that the reign of His Majesty King Charles III will be proclaimed across Suffolk on Sunday 11 September.  In Suffolk this will happen when the Proclamation is read from the balcony of Ipswich Town Hall at 1pm.

A further reading of the Proclamation will then take place two hours later in Eye, at 3.30pm, as well as in 22 other towns across the county.

This is to invite you to the reading of the Proclamation in Eye on the steps of the Town Hall at 3.30pm on Sunday 11th September 2022.

This will mark the accession of His Majesty King Charles III

Please join us in receiving the Proclamation and wishing His Majesty strength, wisdom and courage to carry out his duties.

PCC consultation on new Police and Crime Plan

October 21, 2021
21 Oct 2021

As your Police and Crime Commissioner, I must publish a Police and Crime Plan for policing in Suffolk and I am in the process of drafting a new plan, which will run for the next three years. This new plan will set the direction of policing in the county and the activity which will be taken forward by my office.

The draft plan is now out for public consultation before being presented to the Police and Crime Panel in January.    If you wish to make any comments, as an individual, or a representative of your organisation, I would be pleased to hear from you.

Please click HERE to access the survey which will close at 9am on Monday 22nd November 2021.

A link to the plan is embedded in the survey but for those who do not wish to take part in the consultation, it is also available here:

I would like to thank you for your interest and can assure you, any comments you choose to make will be considered. Please feel free to share this email with anyone within your community you think may be interested.
Many thanks,
Tim Passmore

Councillor Vacancy

March 2, 2018
02 Mar 2018

This is an exciting time for the Town Council.  There is the challenge of new development planned for the Town and we are considering a Neighbourhood Plan for Eye.  Extensive building works updating the Town Hall costing £200,000 have started.

Do you have skills or experience that you could bring to the role of Councillor? E.g. financial, business, marketing.

We currently have a vacancy for Councillor on Eye Town Council due to the resignation of a long serving member and would welcome your application.

We are hoping to fill the position by way of cooption at our April meeting.

To request an application pack contact Wendy Alcock the Town Clerk or click here.

If you would like an informal chat with a current Town Councillor about what being a Councillor entails let the Clerk know.

You will need your own computer, laptop for Council business.

Closing date for receipt of completed applications is 6th April 2018

New opening hours for Eye Library in April

February 28, 2017
28 Feb 2017

Following a recent consultation with customers, Eye Library will be changing its opening hours in April.

The new hours will mean the library is open for the same number of hours as it is now, but will open and close a bit earlier most days to meet local demand. The new opening hours will come into effect on Saturday 1 April and the changes are as follows:
Monday – closed (no change)
Tuesday – 9am to 1pm (opening 30 mins earlier)
Wednesday – 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm (open 30 mins earlier and closing 30 mins later)
Thursday – 2pm to 5pm (closing 30 mins earlier)
Friday – 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm (opening 30 mins earlier and closing two hours earlier)
Saturday – 9am – 1pm (opening 30 mins earlier)
Sunday – 10am to 3pm (no change)

Customers and local people were asked about the changes with 100 people responding and Suffolk Libraries Board, Suffolk County Council and Eye Library Friends have all approved the change.

Julie Shepherd, Eye Library Manager, said: “We have not reviewed the library opening hours for several years and we hope that opening earlier will make it easier for local people to use the library. Many items are returned via the library dropbox before the current opening times, so we hope moving the hours from our Friday evening session, when the library is a bit quieter, to earlier morning opening will result in a more accessible and popular service for our users.”

For more information on Eye Library and its regular activities call 01379 870515 or visit https://www.suffolklibraries.co.uk/libraries/eye-library/
