Streetlight Works in Eye Nearing Completion

May 29, 2015
29 May 2015

After comments from a number of residents regarding the Streetlight works in Eye recently ETC would like to share the following information from Suffolk County Councils Highways :

All of the street lights which are not being changed have had Telensa fitted and changed to part night lighting – works complete

All of the street lights/columns which our contractor was able to undertake have been completed

UKPN use two contractors – Morrisons implement new street light works and the only one outstanding is the supply to Wellington Street/ Dove Street which is programmed wb 12 June because they requested a road closure to undertake the works

Their second contractor is BTS which does the overhead lines they were supposed to complete their works last week, it is proposed that all the works are complete by the week beginning 17 June and I will check that all units are operational and on the correct programme at that time.

Distraction Theft Alert

May 21, 2015
21 May 2015

ALERT
Members are warned to be vigilant after several distraction thefts at premises in Suffolk over the past week.  Two such events have taken place in Eye, with the retailer being distracted by one of two “shoppers” whilst the other “shopper” took advantage of the distraction to gain access to a location where money could be stolen.  Please be alert to any suspicious activity.

I have circulated an alert on Eye-to-Eye requesting that shoppers are aware of the potential problem, and encouraging them to alert retailers if they sense anything suspicious.

Kings Bridge Found ‘Fit for Purpose’

May 15, 2015
15 May 2015

Suffolk County Council has been contacted about the state of the bridge on the B1077 to Occold. The hope was that the poor state of this bridge might lead to a review of the HGV traffic using this route, which has seen a large increase in volume over the last few years and which causes continued problems at the Bank junction and Magdalen Street.

Unfortunately – this was the response :

“Both Abbey Bridge (36/12) on the B1117 and Kings Bridge (36/16) on the B1077 currently have an assessed structural capacity greater than 40T. They were both last inspected in May 2014 and are due to have a more detailed ‘Principal’ inspection in 2018 which will be followed by a structural review to BD101.

While the condition of both bridge continue to deteriorate, I do not have any current evidence to question their structural integrity and they remain ‘safe for use and fit for purpose’ for normal highway vehicle loading.”

Recent cracking in the pavement has been spotted on the Kings bridge and the Council plan on taking this to the Highways Agency. The quest for a Lorry-free town continues!

Town AGM a group success

May 13, 2015
13 May 2015

Eye’s Town Annual General Meeting took place last night in the Town Hall, taking advantage of newly acquired Audio and Visual equipment.

The meeting was well attended and the community heard annual reports from the outgoing Mayor Caroline Byles, District Councillor Charles Flatman and County Councillor Guy McGregor. Numerous points were also raised by members of the public. Civic awards were also handed out to members of the community nominated for their contributions to Eye in 2014.

However the stand out feature of the evening was hearing from a full 20 voluntary groups and charitable organisations in Eye. Many had benefited from Eye Town Council’s recent Community Grants, and all had a lot to say about the good work they have been doing and their progress over the last year. Eye is very fortunate to have such a thriving network of social support and it was a pleasure to see it celebrated.

Full minutes of the meeting will be available soon, and watch this space for much more news and updates from all the groups involved.
